John Belcher, winner of 2019 Teaching with Digital Technology Award
How can you learn about physics without "seeing" what's happening? Knowing how abstract the concepts can be, Professor John Belcher used animations in his classes at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to help his students visualize energy transfer, magnetic fields, and more. "To be able to visualize charged objects moving, or electric fields changing over time — this not only helped me to learn, but it helped me to remember," one of Prof Belcher's students said. For this work, Prof Belcher received a Teaching with Digital Technology Award from MIT in 2019, a student-nominated award for instructors who have used digital technology to improve teaching and learning at MIT.
