David Correll
Former Lecturer & Research Scientist
David Correll was a Lecturer and a Research Scientist at the MIT Center for Transportation and Logistics, where he also serves as Co-Director of the MIT Freight Lab and as a Course Lead in the MITx MicroMaster’s in Supply Chain Management program. Dr. Correll’s current research focuses on the working experiences of the American long-haul truck driver. He leads the Driver Initiative, which partners with trucking companies, truck drivers, and other parties to identify opportunities for improving American truck driver retention, utilization, and quality of life. On campus, Dr. Correll teaches SCM.291 Procurement Fundamentals, which introduces students to the legacy of strategic thought when a company looks upstream. On-line, Dr. Correll leads SC4x Supply Chain Technology & Systems, which introduces students to the software systems that run modern supply chain systems.
FAQs
This program is for people who want serious analytical training in how goods, information, and money move through a supply chain. It suits professionals who already work in or alongside supply chains who want to back their day-to-day decisions with stronger quantitative methods. Those looking to change careers into the field, or anyone aiming for senior roles that require seeing how demand planning, stocking levels, shipping, and facility networks affect one another will also benefit from this program. Because the coursework draws on examples from industries like healthcare, sports, finance, and sustainability, you don't need to come from a traditional logistics background. The program is also a good fit for learners who want to study on their own schedule alongside a full-time job.
Roles that may benefit the most from this program include:
- Supply chain analysts, planners, and coordinators early or mid-career who want to build technical depth in forecasting, inventory, and transportation
- Procurement, purchasing, and logistics professionals whose roles now involve complex data and modeling decisions
- Operations managers who want an end-to-end view of supply chains, from strategy to execution
- Career changers moving into supply chain from other fields, particularly as several universities accept this MicroMasters credential for credit.
The MicroMasters Program in Supply Chain Management is highly flexible and there are no formal prerequisites and no mandated order in which the courses must be completed.
Learners interested in pursuing the entire credential may find the following course order beneficial:
- Supply Chain Analytics (SC0x)
- Supply Chain Fundamentals (SC1x)
- Supply Chain Design (SC2x)
- Supply Chain Dynamics (SC3x)
- Supply Chain Technology and Systems (SC4x)
In order to be eligible to take the Supply Chain Comprehensive exam, a learner must have completed and successfully earned a certificate in each of the five individual courses within the program.
The MicroMasters Program in Supply Chain Management is a graduate-level curriculum that combines rigorous academic content with practical applications. The program prepares learners for strategic roles that leverage data, models, and technology to make better decisions across forecasting, inventory management, transportation, network design, and supply chain systems.
Course content is tied to current professional challenges, and due to the rigorous nature of courses, a MicroMasters credential is a demonstrated achievement you can use with employers to show your expertise.
MicroMasters programs serve as both a pathway to a full master’s degree and as a standalone credential. All courses are asynchronous and online-only, providing learners with maximum flexibility in their schedules. View the annual course run schedule.
Courses are pre-recorded, and lessons, assignments, and exams are released according to a schedule specific to each course. The schedule will be posted at the beginning of each course and will vary based on whether a course is self- or instructor-paced.
In a self-paced course all materials are released at the start of the course so you can progress at your own pace. Self-paced courses still have a fixed final exam window scheduled in the final week of the course run.
In an instructor-paced course course content is released on a weekly basis during the course run and a comprehensive syllabus, deadlines, and requirements are provided in Week 0 of the course.
Please note that all deadlines within the courses are strict and extensions are not available.
Additionally, each course has in-course discussion forums where you can engage in discussions with peers and ask questions to the community teaching assistant (CTA) team.
All MicroMasters in Supply Chain Management courses expect a learner to dedicate approximately 8-12 hours of effort per week, with each course running over 13 weeks. This includes watching lectures, engaging with course materials, completing assignments, and participating in discussion forums.
Learners may enroll in both instructor-paced and self-paced courses up until the listed enrollment deadline. Enrolling in a course after Week 0 may impact the level of weekly effort required to successfully complete all required assignments and deadlines within the course.
The weekly time commitment estimates for each course are below:
- Supply Chain Analytics: 6-10 hours/week
- Supply Chain Fundamentals: 8-12 hours/week
- Supply Chain Design: 8-12 hours/week
- Supply Chain Dynamics: 6-10 hours/week

In addition to instructor videos, MicroMasters in SCM courses include exercises, assignments, and assessments that allow learners to apply theoretical concepts to real-world practical examples. Course content is divided between separate learning and assessment spaces.
Learning spaces include videos, quick questions, and practice problems that provide immediate feedback. Weekly Graded Assignments serve as formative assessments, and solutions are released after the due date. Self-paced courses also have module tests that serve as formative assessments.
Assessment spaces consist of the Midterm (instructor-paced courses) and Final Exams (self- and instructor-paced courses). These exams evaluate individual mastery of the course material. To preserve academic integrity and protect the value of course certificates and the MITx MicroMasters® Credential, no solutions or individualized feedback are provided for exam questions.
To earn the MicroMasters in SCM program credential, learners must complete and pass the Comprehensive Final Exam (CFx), a proctored and timed exam covering all content from the five SCx courses.
